Trauma informed yoga foundations and social justice with Tamika Caston-Miller

Tamika Caston-Miller, is an E-RYT500, contributor to Yoga Journal, Yogaworks Teacher Trainer, and director of Ashé Yoga where she curates yoga experiences and trainings in service of collective healing and community repair. With special interest in yoga for social justice through the lenses of Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and Yoga Nidra, Tamika’s school and studio have a special emphases on trauma-informed yoga, ancestral remembering, collective rest, and somatics in support of traditionally marginalized communities.

 

Session one Trauma-Informed Yoga Foundations (1100 - 1500) 

This workshop will dive into the language and rationale of trauma-informed yoga, including an introduction to polyvagal theory, types of trauma, creating a container that encourages brave spaces for traditionally marginalized communities through language and action, and resourcing through movement, breath and other practices to discharge stress in the pursuit of self-regulation. This 4 hour course includes discourse and a Yin Yoga practice, and is well-suited for yoga teachers, space holders and others that intend to deepen their practice and expand their toolkit in creating inclusive spaces.

 

 

Session 2 Collective Rest Collective Repair (1600 - 2000)

In this course, you will delve into rest practices for collective repair, yoga for social justice, the role of rest as a revolutionary act for those who have had an inordinate amount of burden of work. Guided by a queer, Black, American woman residing in Texas, United States, the workshop will provide an opportunity for expansive discourse that disrupts the problematic perpetuation of sameness within the wellness world as it dismisses identities and realities of BIPOC people. Following an interactive, dynamic conversation will be a Restorative Yoga practice with Yoga Nidra, that is Collective Rest.
